History

1904  

Holt Manufacturing, predecessor of Caterpillar Inc., fabricated a track-type tractor for the first time in history.

1925  

Caterpillar Inc. was established.

1960  

Akashi Works of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries began local production of hydraulic excavators for the first time.

1963  

Caterpillar Mitsubishi was established.

1965  

The first domestically produced CAT D4D bulldozer was completed.

1979  

Sagami Plant achieved a total production volume of 100,000 units.
Chichibu Demonstration Center was established in Chichibu City.

1986  

Hydraulic Excavator Design Center was established in Akashi before the inauguration of Shin Caterpillar Mitsubishi.

1987  

Caterpillar Mitsubishi merged with a reconstituted organization of Akashi Works to make a new start as Shin Caterpillar Mitsubishi.
Hydraulic excavator CAT E200B of original development was newly released.

1989  

Akashi Plant achieved a total production volume of 100,000 hydraulic excavators.

1990  

Sagami and Akashi Plants were established.

1992  

CAT 300 family hydraulic excavator "REGA" with worldwide common specifications was newly released.
Design Center Building, a new base for development and design of hydraulic excavators, was completed in Akashi.

1993  

Head Office was relocated to Yoga, Tokyo.

1996  

The hydraulic excavator "REGA" B series were newly released.

2000  

The hydraulic excavator "REGA" C series were newly released.

2001  

CAT mini hydraulic excavators were newly released.
The CAT 300 family hydraulic excavator achieved the accumulated sales volume of 150,000 units.

2002  

Sagami Plant achieved a total production volume of 300,000 units.

2003  

Sagami Development Center was established in Sagami.

2004  

Mini-wheel loaders of original development, CAT 901B/902B/903B, were newly released.

2005  

The hydraulic excavator "REGA" D series were newly released.
Construction machinery fitted with a new-generation environmentally sound engine "ACERT" was newly released.

2007  

Sagami Plant achieved a total production volume of 300,000 tractors.

2008  

Akashi Plant achieved a total production volume of 300,000 hydraulic excavators.
The company name was changed to Caterpillar Japan.

2012  

Caterpillar became the sole owner of Caterpillar Japan Ltd.
